Software engineering exit exam: topics, format and how to prepare

The software engineering test is shorter than the other four — 90 minutes rather than 120 — and spans computing fundamentals, requirements, design, verification and professional practice. Because it is shorter, the pacing is tighter, so practise answering under time as well as for accuracy.

What does the software engineering exam cover?

Eight official areas: computing foundations, engineering fundamentals, modelling and analysis, requirements engineering, software design, verification and validation, professional practice, and quality and security. Computing foundations is the single largest area.

Is it about coding or about process?

More process and principles than live coding: data structures and complexity, software development lifecycles, design patterns, testing strategy, and professional ethics. Expect fundamentals rather than framework trivia.

How should I prepare in the last weeks?
