What is the Jahziah exam? A clear guide for Saudi engineering students
The Jahziah (جاهزية) assessment is a set of national tests run by ETEC, the Education and Training Evaluation Commission. For engineering graduates it checks whether you have met the learning outcomes of your degree before you finish it. What does Jahziah measure?
It measures programme learning outcomes — whether a student who is about to graduate can actually apply the knowledge and skills the programme promised to teach. It is a readiness check, not a course exam, so questions jump between subjects and reward understanding over memorisation.
Who takes the engineering version?
Final-year students and recent graduates of engineering programmes at Saudi universities. It is offered for several fields, including mechanical, electrical, civil, industrial, and software engineering.
What is on the engineering test?
All questions are multiple-choice and the engineering tests are written in English. The content follows the core subjects of your discipline — for example, mechanics and materials, thermodynamics, fluids, and design in mechanical engineering. A calculator is allowed, and the test includes a short questionnaire alongside the scored questions.
How many questions, and how long?
ETEC describes the engineering assessments as 55–85 questions taking 90–120 minutes, depending on the discipline, including the questionnaire. Treat these as the published guide rather than a fixed promise, and confirm the current numbers for your field in the official subject standards.
How should you prepare?
Practise answering questions under realistic conditions, spread across weeks rather than crammed into one night, and read why every option is right or wrong.
